How do I register?

Click JOIN on the right-hand side of this page. Once you click JOIN, you will be prompted to sign in or create a Hackworks account. Continue to follow the prompts to register.

How are teams formed?

If you already have team members in mind, you can find their profiles once they have registered on the Hackworks.com platform, and add them to your team before the event. You will also automatically be added to the Solve for X Slack group, which you can use to find teammates.

If you do not already have team members in mind, there will be time at the beginning of the event to find other participants to team up with. Don’t be shy! We’ll help you find the perfect team.

USE THE MATCHMAKING TOOL:
The matchmaking tool on the Hackworks platform is a great way for individuals to join an existing team, and for teams to find additional members to optimize their collective skill sets. Once you are registered for the hackathon you can start searching for teams to join, or create a team page and start recruiting teammates to work on your idea.

USE SLACK:
Teams can be formed on the #team_formation Slack channel, and will remain open for participants to join in or drop out until right before hacking begins. If you’re having trouble finding a team or teammate, please introduce yourself to a Hackworks team member on Slack or via email - they will pair you with other single registrants or help you find an existing team!

What if I don’t have a team?

Once you register, feel free to use the matchmaking process for finding teams. Don’t worry! We’ve set aside some time at the start of Day 1 to allow participants to find team members. The Hackworks team will also be there to facilitate this process. Please arrive on time so you can take advantage of this opportunity.

What is the best team size?

Teams can be anywhere from 1 to 4 participants.

Who owns the intellectual property?

We want to build a stronger and more resilient community and we see the output of the hackathon being of value to the public for collaboration and inspiration. All submissions at the end of the hackathon will be compiled in the Idea Book – a digital catalog publicly sharing the ideas born from the hackathon’s collective brainstorming, with credit given to the ideas’ creators. Our hope is to inspire community stakeholders to continue to build and realize participant ideas and only grow the conversation even further outside the walls of the hackathon.

How do I edit my profile after I register?

To edit your profile first login to your Hackworks.ca account, click the profile icon located in the top right corner of the website to see your account profile options.

I've never done a hackathon before, can I still participate?

Yes - hackathons are a great opportunity to have fun, network, apply your skills, and learn new skills in a fun and productive way!
