How are the teams being formed for the FINHACKS hackathon?

There are several ways you can find teammates or join an existing team:

In Person:
Teams can be formed on Friday night right before coding begins. Colour coded nametags will be available to make it easy to identify potential teammates with skills that complement your own. If you’re having trouble finding a team or finding a teammate, make sure to introduce yourself to a Hackworks team member on site. He/she will help you find your perfect match.

Using the Matchmaking Tool:
The matchmaking tool on the Hackworks platform is a great way for participants looking to join a team, and teams looking for additional members with certain skills, to find each other. Once you have a ticket for FINHACKS you can start searching for teams to join; or go on to create a team page and start recruiting teammates with skillsets that will complement your own.

Every team needs to be registered on the FINHACKS hackathon website to be able to submit their projects.

I have a confirmed ticket to the FINHACKS hackathon, what can I do to prepare?

Stay Connected:
Keep an eye on the FINHACKS website for more news. Make sure you join the conversation on the FINHACKS Slack channel to discuss your ideas with participants and get feedback from hackathon mentors.

Do I have to stay at the Cisco Innovation Centre for the duration of FINHACKS?

Cisco Innovation Centre will be open for the duration of FINHACKS and participants are encouraged to spend as much time on-site as possible – after all, that’s half the fun of participating in a hackathon! However, participants are welcome to come and go as they please.

Will meals be provided at FINHACKS?

Yes, there will be meals, snacks, and beverages provided throughout FINHACKS. We will do our best to meet dietary needs, but cannot guarantee everyone’s requirements will be met. If you have any special dietary needs please contact us.

Who owns the ideas, outputs and solutions at the end of the FINHACKS hackathon? Do they remain proprietary to the teams that developed them?

The outputs of FINHACKS will be owned by the individuals and teams who create them. We will be updating the FINHACKS website with a full rules & regulations that outline the Intellectual Property statement, as well as other conditions to participating in FINHACKS.

How will my application be judged?

We will be judging FINHACKS submissions on six different criteria: Functionality, User Experience, User Impact, Innovation, Technical Implementation, and Alignment with Challenge(s) in two phases. This allows multiple judges to see every submission and ensures the great submissions rise to the top.

Submissions will first be reviewed by a committee of judges during science-fair-style judging to narrow the teams down to the Top 10. The top teams will then pitch to a panel of judges in front of a live audience and, after a short deliberation, the winners will be announced.

For more information on the scoring format, and judging criteria please check out the judging page.
